The latest version of Adobe Magazine is out. Some good reading and inspiration. I especially like how they briefly discuss how many of the projects were created. Go get it, it’s worth the time.

The New York Times
It is comforting knowing how much thought is put into the typography of civic memorials. Also, that the issue of typograhy can actually make it to the front page of the NYT! If there ever was a city whose populace is both informed and concerned with aesthetics, its New York.
“The choice of Gotham is more than a matter of typographical arcana (though as typographical arcana go, it’s not bad). As the first tangible element of the Freedom Tower - and, by extension, the trade center redevelopment - and as an image seen nationwide on Independence Day, the cornerstone sent an aesthetic signal of intent.”

From the BBC site:
“The workings of the internet and magic may seem worlds apart, but to one prominent web design thinker, they share much in common.”
Not very detailed, but still a good read from one of the worlds most highly regarded interface designers, Bruce “Tog” Tognazzini.

From the TGSNT site:
Unfortunately, the folks at TGSNT site don’t believe in setting body copy in Flash to “selectable” , so I was forced to post the info as an image capture. My apologies for the breach in web ettiquette.

The Product Apple Should Have Built
Friday, October 03, 2003

“Wowie… if you can get over the fact it runs XP. From former Apple employees (TiBook designers) comes a revolutionary product
First impression because it runs XP was “Yeek”, but if you can get over the fact it doesn’t have a Apple badge this is pretty awesome… the screen alone is reason to use one of these rather than a PDA. The 200 dpi screen from my understanding has more desktop space than a 12-14” 72dpi screen. As a designer you can use this on the run away from the studio. “
It looks a little chunky, but given the screen res and apparent horse power, this could be a really cool tool.

Frog Design does it again! Those folks are too cool. Looks like they’ve teamed up with Motorola to begin work on some pretty slick wearable computing gear. Unlike stuff I’ve seen in the past, this gear looks cool AND is pretty damn amazing. It appears that bluetooth is finally getting its due. below is the blurb from the PhoneScoop Article.
“Frog Design and Motorola today unveiled the “Offspring” concept design for a set of wearable devices. The individual pieces communicate via Bluetooth. A central device - the WDA - serves as the hub, and provides a wireless connection to an iDEN network. The design is only a concept at this point, although Motorola is preparing for user testing, and plans to bring a product based on the design to market within two years.”
two years is a long time in the cool gadget universe. God knows what will crop up between now and then. Now that this stuff is in the collective, it opens the doors for other’s imaginations to build from.
